When the story of Esther opens, God’s name is never mentioned. At first glance, He seems hidden. But the more you read, the more you notice His hand at work: guiding Esther to the throne, exposing Haman’s schemes, and turning despair into deliverance. Esther never asked to be queen. She didn’t campaign, she didn’t plan for it. Yet, through a swirl of palace politics, she found herself in a position where her choices mattered. When Haman plotted to destroy the Jews, Mordecai challenged her: “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
Esther’s courage didn’t come from knowing every outcome—it came from trusting God with the unknown. She fasted, prayed, and then acted, even when it meant risking her life. Through her bravery, God’s people were saved, and His faithfulness shone even in exile. What It Means for Us Today We may not live in a palace, but each of us has a place of influence. It might be in your workplace, your school, your friendships, or even in your own family. Like Esther, you may feel unqualified or unsure. You might even wonder why God has placed you where you are. But the truth is this: God is never absent. Even when His name feels hidden in your circumstances, His hand is still at work. Your voice, your choices, and your faith can have ripple effects you may never see in full. A Question to Reflect On Where might God be calling you to step up with courage? Is there someone to stand beside, a word of truth to speak, or a quiet act of faithfulness to offer? A Prayer to Pray Lord, thank You that You are always at work, even when I can’t see You clearly. Give me courage like Esther to trust You with the unknown. Help me to use the position and influence You’ve given me—big or small—for Your purposes. Teach me to believe that I am here “for such a time as this.” Amen.
