Most people assume heaven is for good people. It sounds fair — good people should be rewarded, bad people shouldn’t. We comfort ourselves with the thought that we’re “good enough,” especially when we compare ourselves to others. But when you stop and think about it, that idea doesn’t really work. Whose definition of “good” are we using? Every culture, religion, and era has drawn the line differently. And if heaven depends on being good enough, wouldn’t a good God tell us exactly what the passing grade is? Instead, we’re left guessing. That doesn’t sound very fair — or very hopeful.
Jesus offers a completely different approach. He didn’t come to congratulate the good or condemn the bad. He came to rescue all of us — the proud and the broken, the confident and the uncertain. He raised the bar of goodness so high that no one could reach it… and then He met it for us. That’s why Christianity isn’t about earning your way to heaven. It’s about trusting the One who already did the work. Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) The good news? Heaven isn’t a prize for the perfect. It’s a gift from a good God to anyone humble enough to receive it.
