Growing Your Faith

Evangelism Week 3, 17 August 2025

Reminder

What Is Evangelism?

At its heart, evangelism means helping lead those outside the faith into a relationship with Jesus. It’s not just the role of a gifted few; it’s the privilege and calling of every believer. Evangelism is not about techniques or winning arguments — it’s about relationships.
Evangelism is relational before it is informational. By approaching people with friendship, care, and humility, we create space for trust to grow. It is in the context of a relationship that the gospel can be seen most clearly.

Evangelism 101: A Fresh Perspective
Jesus commanded:

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
— Matthew 28:19–20

This is not simply a task list; it’s an invitation to join God’s mission in the world.

  • Everyday Evangelism
Evangelism isn’t just for a few gifted people — every Christian can take simple steps that help others move closer to Jesus. It’s less about polished methods and more about letting the message of God’s love shine through ordinary life.
  • Life and Relationships
Evangelism is not about memorising lines or giving information, but about walking with people in love and authenticity. Every interaction — how we listen, forgive, and serve — becomes a testimony of what we believe about God.

  • A Joyful Privilege
Sharing faith is holistic, including prayer, service, and genuine relationships. It’s not a burden but a privilege to join in what God is already doing in someone’s life.

The Core Message of the Gospel
Evangelism can feel overwhelming until we remember how simple the message is:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
— John 3:16
This verse holds the whole story:
  • God loved. Love is the motivation.
  • God gave. Jesus is the gift.
  • We believe. Faith is our response.
  • We receive. Eternal life is the promise.
That’s the gospel in four movements: Love. Gift. Faith. Life.

Spiritual Growth Week 2, 03 August 2025

Reflection Activity, Allow 20-30 minutes

✍️ Part 1: Responsibility & Empowerment – Reflection Prompts
  1. The Individual
“What does it look like for me to own my faith journey?”
  • When have I taken initiative in my growth rather than waiting for someone else to push me?
  • Where am I currently coasting instead of taking a step?
  1. The Small Group & Leader
“How am I inviting others into my growth?”
  • Who helps keep me accountable?
  • How do I allow my group or leader to speak into my life?
  1. The Church
“How am I partnering with the church’s environments?”
  • Which church environments am I making the most of?
  • Where could I take better advantage of opportunities to grow and serve?
📝 Write one action step you could take in each area (Individual, Group, Leader, Church).

✍️ Part 2: The Holy Spirit’s Role – Listening & Responding
Read John 14:26–27.
Reflect on the six roles of the Holy Spirit mentioned tonight:
  1. Points us to Jesus.
  2. Confronts areas where we need to grow.
  3. Empowers us to change.
  4. Provides peace and comfort.
  5. Guides us with wisdom and discernment.
  6. Enables us to participate in fruitful ministry.
Reflection Questions:
  • Which of these roles have I experienced recently? How?
  • Which role of the Spirit do I most need to lean into right now?
  • Where might I be resisting the Spirit’s work in me?

🙌 Part 3: Response & Prayer
Look back over your answers.
  • Where is my part clear, and where am I depending on others too much?
  • Where am I trying to grow in my own strength instead of in partnership with the Holy Spirit?
Prayer Idea: Write a short prayer of surrender—thanking God for the people He uses in your growth, confessing where you’ve been passive, and inviting the Holy Spirit to empower, guide, and change you.

Spiritual Growth Week 1, 27 July 2025

Reflection Activity, Allow 30-45 minutes

✍️ Part 1: Timeline of Faith
Draw a simple timeline of your life with Jesus.
Mark any key turning points in your spiritual journey—moments where your faith grew, was challenged, or took a leap.

✍️ Part 2: The Five Catalysts – Reflection Prompts
1. Practical Teaching
"When did the Bible come alive for you?"
  • Who explained Scripture in a way that changed how you live?
  • Is there a sermon, course, Bible study, or moment that reshaped how you saw God?
📝 Write down one or two key moments where practical teaching impacted your faith.

2. Private Disciplines
"When did your private life with God grow stronger?"
  • When did you first begin praying regularly, reading Scripture, fasting, or giving?
  • How did these disciplines impact your faith?
📝 Note a time when a private discipline became real and helped you trust God more.

3. Personal Ministry
"When were you stretched by serving others?"
  • Was there a time you stepped out to serve and felt God work through you?
  • What did you learn about yourself—and about God—when you served beyond your comfort?
📝 List one or two times you were involved in ministry that stretched your faith.

4. Providential Relationships
"Who did God place in your life at just the right time?"
  • Who encouraged, challenged, or walked with you in a way that changed your faith?
  • How did that relationship shape your spiritual growth?
📝 Write the names and stories of one or two people who had a deep spiritual impact on you.

5. Pivotal Circumstances
"What moment changed everything?"
  • Think about hardships, breakthroughs, loss, moves, transitions—moments where your faith was tested or reshaped.
  • Did you sense God's presence in the middle of it?
📝 Identify one or two pivotal circumstances and how God used them to grow your faith.

🙌 Part 3: Response and Prayer
  • Look back over your answers.
  • What patterns do you notice?
  • Where was God at work when you didn’t see it at the time?
  • What catalyst might He be using in your life right now?
🧎‍♂️ End with a time of silent or written prayer—thanking God for each catalyst and inviting Him to continue growing your faith.
